Circularity is Scool! is a transnational initiative funded by the Erasmus+ Programme that aims to transform primary schools into living laboratories of sustainability. The project focuses on integrating Circular Economy (CE) principles into both education and everyday school practices, empowering teachers, students, and the wider school community to become active agents of change.

🎯 Main Goals

The project seeks to:

  1. Develop a Circular Schools Toolkit: A practical, adaptable educational resource co-created with teachers and experts to help integrate circular practices into classrooms and school operations.
  2. Pilot the Toolkit in Real School Environments: Test the approach in two primary schools in Greece and Cyprus, gather feedback, and refine the tools accordingly.
  3. Empower School Communities: Engage students, parents, and teachers in circular activities that promote teamwork, innovation, and sustainability.
  4. Implement Circular Applications in Schools: Support student-led circular initiatives such as composting, reuse stations, or zero-waste projects.
  5. Ensure Long-Term Impact: Disseminate the results and build a foundation for future circular schools in Europe through networking and open-access materials.

🧭 Why Circular Economy in Schools?

The Mediterranean region is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Schools play a vital role in shaping sustainable mindsets from an early age. However, structured CE education is still rare in primary education, especially in Greece and Cyprus. This project addresses that gap by providing educators with ready-to-use resources and students with hands-on learning experiences that go beyond theory.

🧑‍🏫 Who is Involved?

The project brings together a diverse consortium of four organizations from Cyprus and Greece:

  • CS Center for Sustainability (CY) – Project Coordinator
  • incommon Environmental Organization (GR) – Experts in circular economy education
  • 2nd Primary School of Agia Varvara (GR) – Inclusive public school serving diverse students
  • Morningside Montessori School (CY) – Montessori-based private school focused on sustainability

🌍 Who Benefits?

  • Teachers: Gain tools, training, and confidence to teach circularity
  • Students: Become circular thinkers and changemakers in their communities
  • Schools: Introduce sustainable practices in operations and culture
  • Communities: Foster collaboration, environmental awareness, and civic engagement
